Recently I’ve been playing around with a website called This Is My Jam. It is probably not the best website of its kind. I don’t know how long this obsession will last. Perhaps forever or maybe I’ll be over it next Wednesday. For the moment though it’s cute. The premise is simple: pick one song. Link to it. Say that’s your song in this moment in your life. Walk away. Come back later and see if other people liked it too. You can keep that one song up for a minute, a day or as long as you like up to a week. Long before then tho some other song will have playfully tickled your eardrum and you’ll wanna change it. If life gets busy, you can set up TIMJ to change your weekly jam to an “Eternal Jam” that will slip in after a week until you remember to check out the site again. Most people usually seem to change their jam after a day or two. I’ve had to resist the urge to change mine out many times in the same day. It’s a vanity thing but it’s silly fun and it’s nice to look back on my love affair with music and reflect on what songs speak to me. What songs would I like to share with other people? What songs do I think typify how I see myself or how i see the world? What sounds cool to me at the moment?

Some people in TIMJ have taken to alphabetizing their selections, and they add the hashtag of “The #ABCsOfMe” and that looks like fun but would take at least a month to pull off at TIMJ. I decided instead to try a different tactic. One artist per letter seems way too limiting to me, not to mention one song. That might be what I do later on, but I need to get a better picture of the musical landscape inside my head before I try something like that. What if I listed here in my old blog what The ABCs Of Me are? Then later on when I can’t think of a jam to put up, I can start posting these after I got a clear idea what I want them to be. So the goal here is to just make the list of artists and bands right now, and later on I’ll put em up at TIMJ or maybe just make future posts that list youtube videos like I’ve done in here before. Granted this is not an exhaustive list. It’s far from complete. I reserve the right to change my mind at any time. Some of these show my age. Some of them show my horrendous lack of taste. In some cases i enjoy entire discographies and in other cases just one or two songs, or the name just came to me and I think I like them but maybe I remember wrong. Finding at least one name for each letter of the alphabet turned out to be a lot easier than I thought it would be. Anyway. Here’s a first draft. I may revisit this in the future or this might be it. I dunno.
